Every Weekend in Blacksburg is a Good Weekend

...even if football doesn't go so well.

I got to Blacksburg Friday evening, just in time to go to a birthday dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings with Kevin and some of his friends. There's never a bad time for boneless wings, right?

Saturday was the big day, though.  Noon kickoffs (ugh) call for early mornings, but that means early tailgates, and there's nothing wrong with that. I had a lovely breakfast at Our Daily Bread with one of my undergrad professors before heading to campus.

This year, VT introduced a new pre-game event called "Hokie Village" that's free and open to fans and students. There's concessions, giveaways, Hokie Bird appearances, visits from the Spirit Squads and other athletes, and sometimes special appearances from former players. David Wilson was there this past weekend, but I missed him. Sad face. But I got my umpteenth picture with the Hokie Bird, so that's cool.

After checking out Hokie Village, I met and tailgated with my fellow Hokie blogger friend, Lisa, over at Sorority Life to Army Wife. I had never met a blog friend in real life before, so that was awesome. And even better that she's a Hokie, just like me!

Unfortunately, the Hokies couldn't get it together late in the game and fell to Georgia Tech by a mere field goal. It was frustrating, much like last week's game against ECU. Despite the loss, I loved being back in Lane and jumping to "Enter, Sandman" and yelling and screaming at my Hokies. I also got to see a few friends at halftime, so that was fun.

After the game and resting a little, Kevin and I went to dinner at an awesome Italian restaurant called Zeppoli's. It was one of the first restaurants my parents and I ate at when I first moved to VT my freshman year, and I'm happy to say it's still as delicious as I remembered.

After dinner, we got a group together to go downtown for a little while. I was very happy going back to Hokie House and taking advantage of their fantastic Happy Hour deals.

Hello $3 Long Islands, and another addition to my cup collection.

Sunday morning, I had the only acceptable thing to have for breakfast on a Sunday in Blacksburg: Carol Lee donuts. I may love Krispy Kreme, but oh my, Carol Lee is something to behold. And don't worry, we didn't eat all 12 of those.

Here's to an awesome weekend, Blacksburg. Thanks for treating me right, as always. Here's to also hoping the Hokies can turn it around this coming weekend against Western Michigan.

And just because my alma mater is so dang beautiful:

Looking at all of your pictures makes me want to go back, haha. And I only got 2 Carol Lee's donuts. Should've bought a dozen.

I always make sure to take pictures of everything when I go back. Can never have too many!
