#tbt: When I was a Blonde

No seriously, I used to be a blonde. Hard to picture, isn't it?

I was actually born with black hair, so everyone thought I'd look more like my dad as I got older (as he has dark brown/black hair). But not long after birth, my hair all fell out and came back bright blonde.

And it was so until about middle school, and especially into high school. My hair got darker and darker until it reached its current color, a medium brown. But then my freshman year of college, I decided I missed lighter hair and wanted to be blonde again. So I bought some of this:

Yeah, freshman-year Kate wasn't the brightest. I thought it'd be easier than dyeing my hair. Heh. Anyway, I used that for a while, and it turned my hair into this...

It looked decent for about two weeks, and then I just couldn't deal with blonde anymore. My roots had started growing back brown, and it just looked bad. I waited until I was home for the summer and continued my hair-coloring then. I needed to go back to my natural light brown, so first I found a dark blonde color to even out what I'd messed up. I waited a few days until I went for the next shade: a medium brown, labeled "Natural Light Golden Brown" by Clairol.

"Natural Light Golden Brown" my butt. I came out a redhead. Not like an Ariel redhead, but a redhead nonetheless.

At that point, I did not want to risk another hair experiment going wrong, so I surrendered and rocked the redhead for a while. It eventually grew out and I am now (happily) back to brunette.

I don't miss being blonde at all.
