22 Things I've Learned from 'Say Yes to the Dress'

...barring the fact that Netflix will be the demise of my productivity.

  1. Wedding dresses are a different kind of beautiful. There are also fifty thousand styles of them.

  2. If I find shopping for jeans difficult, then shopping for a wedding dress is going to be a whole new adventure.

  3. Be open-minded, or you'll never find something that makes you happy.

  4. Don't restrict yourself. Try new things.

  5. Try on a dress you normally wouldn't imagine yourself wearing, just because.

  6. Never bring your entire bridal party with you, especially if you're the first to get married. One girl will always get jealous and try to ruin the show.

  7. Or make it her show.

  8. Remind said girl that it's NOT her show as often as needed. Don't be afraid.

  9. Never take your fiancé with you. Ever.

  10. The groom isn't supposed to see his bride until the ceremony. He can wait to see the dress.

  11. Related: if you feel like your fiancé needs to come so you won't pick a dress he doesn't like or that won't match his tastes, then maybe you should consider backing up the wedding and get to know your man a little better.

  12. It's going to be emotional. You're going to cry. Let it happen.

  13. Wear waterproof mascara.

  14. It's YOUR day. Not your sister's. Not your maid of honor's. Not your friend's. Not your mother's. Not your future mother-in-law's. Not your grandma's. The latter three have (presumably) already had their days.

  15. YOU are the bride.

  16. Be patient.

  17. If you're a dude reading this, props to you. See #9-11 above.

  18. Super traditional mamas and grandmas are bad news. Keep them at bay. Better yet, don't bring them if you have even the slightest inkling that they will start a fire.

  19. Wearing a dress that shows shoulders or your open back is not trashy. It's beautiful.

  20. Find a dress that makes you happy, not one that makes your mother happy. Noticing a pattern?

  21. Love yourself and love your dress.

  22. Say yes to said dress.

Side note: my new Netflix subscription might cause me to be the least productive member of society. Whoops.
