Five on Friday

In this week's edition of Five on Friday...

1. I finally got a new computer: After five major repairs over a year and a half and a few less than fun phone calls, my 2010 MacBook Pro is finally getting replaced.  It was frustrating working up to this point, but once we were all on the same page, the people at Apple have been really great about keeping me up to date on shipping and warranty and such.  And speaking of warranty, my old computer was still under warranty, so my replacement unit did not cost me a dime.  Thank God for AppleCare!  I will be so glad to get my new MacBook up and running.  I like my mom's PC, but the Mac Brat wants her Mac back!

2. I don't have to wear a brace on my knee!  At the end of last semester, I noticed my knee had bothered me a little, but I didn't think too much of it.  It got worse in London, some days being almost unbearably painful.  Mom got me set up with a doctor once I got back, and the doc put me in physical therapy, which I started this week.  The doc thought it might be a torn meniscus, but after my first PT session, the therapist I'm working with said he thinks it's just a kneecap issue that should be fixable through PT.  And no brace required!

3. The Heat movie: I'm picky with movies, and I'll be honest, this isn't the type of film I would usually watch and enjoy.  Mom wanted to see it, so we all went earlier this week for something to do on a rainy day.  Oh my goodness, it was hilarious!  Melissa McCarthy (of Bridesmaids and the CBS show Mike & Molly) and Sandra Bullock (The Blind Side, Miss Congeniality, etc) played off each other so well and were perfect in their respective roles.  I definitely recommend it if you're looking for a good summer laugh.  Next up on our movie list: The Lone Ranger

4. Dad smoked pork last night: ...and it was delicious.  As I mentioned in my Day 3 post, I love pork.  While in London, I didn't get a whole lot of it...in fact, I don't think I had pork once while I was there.  So you can imagine I was having a little bit of withdrawal by the time I came home.  We got Dad a smoker for his birthday a few years ago, and he puts it to great use.  Smoked pork is a great feature for any 4th of July dinner.  And now I wish I had a picture to share, but I do not, sadly.  Next time, I promise.

5. Yellowcard Ocean Avenue Acoustic Pre-order: If you know anything about me, you know that I am absolutely in love with the punk/alternative band Yellowcard (yes, I know, my taste in music hasn't changed since I was about 12; I still love Fall Out Boy, too).  This summer is the 10th anniversary of Ocean Avenue's first release (feel old yet?), and the band produced an all-acoustic version of the entire album.  It's not due to release until later in August, but they offered a special online pre-order, and I jumped on it.  I cannot wait to receive my special edition CD and this awesome t-shirt.

And yes, I still know all the words to "Ocean Avenue."  And "Way Away."  And "View From Heaven."  And oodles of others.  And "Believe" makes me tear up every single time.

Well, that's good news - no need to wear braces! Wearing one will only make you feel that your condition is worse than it is. Anyway, did your PT say how long you will need to do the therapy? Little advice for a faster recovery: do as your PT tells you to. If you do otherwise, it will only lengthen the duration of your physical therapy.
