Can I Be a Kid Again?

I was rereading my last post, and it put me in a nostalgic mood.  While I'm ready to be out on my own and have my own family and such, I couldn't help but to think about how life used to be when I was young and didn't have to immediately worry about my future.  Thus, I take a break from studying for my mythology final, and present to you my "Top Threes (and sometimes Fours) from my Childhood."

Enjoy!  How many of you agree with me on these?

MOVIES
1. Anything Disney- Okay, I'll be a little more specific.
    a) The Aristocats: this is my favourite Disney movie ever made.  Seriously.  I could never get enough of Duchess and her kittens, or O'Malley and Scat Cat's antics.  "Mr. O'Malley, do I have sapphire eyes that dazzle, too?"
    b) Aladdin: this film could not be more perfect.  Will always be one of my favourites.  I would love to see this made into a Broadway play like Beauty and the Beast or The Little Mermaid.
    c) The Fox and the Hound: I have not seen this in ages, but I do remember watching it over and over and over when I was a kid.  I hope I have a friendship with someone like Tod and Copper.
2. The Sound of Music- this was my mom's favourite movie when she was growing up.  She started showing it to me when I was about four years old, and I have yet to grow tired of it.  As a kid, I didn't understand the historical or political implications, but I always knew which songs to sing along with, and which parts were my favourites.
3. Cinderella- the Rodgers and Hammerstein version.  I didn't have to hide my face from the evil stepsisters tearing her dress apart, and there were songs and music and dancing!  While I still enjoyed the Disney cartoon version, R&H's version was much more entertaining.

TV SHOWS
1. America's Funniest Home Videos- with Bob Saget.  Enough said.
2. Sailor Moon- this was my absolute favourite show from about third grade until fifth grade when I realized the plot and story was a lot more complicated than I imagined.  I even dressed up as Sailor Moon for Halloween one year, and I was an AWESOME Sailor Moon.  I had my own magic wand and everything.  I seem to remember my favourite character being Sailor Neptune...only because she played violin like me.
3. Whose Line Is It Anyway? - Bring this show back!  Even though I wasn't old enough to understand half of the jokes, I always giggled at Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles.  Wayne Brady's musical acts always made my night.  My dad and I even wrote our own hoedown once.  We were super creative.
4. Pokemon- you knew this was coming.  I was one of two girls in my second grade class who liked Pokemon as much as the boys.  My favourite character and Pokemon changed every week, but Pikachu, Eevee, Charmander, Ponyta, and Vulpix were always good guesses.  Misty's stupid Psyduck drove me up the wall.

BOOKS
1. Matilda, Roald Dahl- I bet I read this book twenty times over in elementary school.  I was so captivated by Matilda's youthful genius...and I couldn't believe she put up with such lousy parents!  But they got what was coming for them, and so did that Trunchbull person.  Brilliant story on all levels.  I'm pretty sure this was the first lengthy chapter book I read all on my own.
2. Island of the Blue Dolphins, Scott O'Dell- This one was read over and over, too, but not as much as Matilda.  I remember my mom reading this to me at bedtime, and dreaming about dolphins later in the night.
3. Fantastic Mr. Fox, Roald Dahl- noticing a pattern?  I actually read this in my third grade class, but loved it so much I continued to read it over and over, even after we finished it at school.  Didn't they make a movie out of it somewhat recently?  I need to see it...

BOARD GAMES
1. Candy Land- every little kid loved this game.  It was simple, colourful, and pretty.  I played with everyone who was willing, from my parents, my friends, to our next-door neighbours and babysitters.  It was one of those games that never got old.
2. Trouble- Anyone else remember this?  The dice was in a little dome, and you had to "pop" the bubble on the dome to "roll" the dice.  We used to play this at least three nights a week when I was young...in fact, I think we played this more than Candy Land.
3. UNO Attack- the jacked-up version of a classic card game!  I always felt a little extra-vindicated when my opponents had to push the button and a whole slew of cards spat out at them.

Oh, childhood...can I please go back?  Just once?  For a day?
