Technological Tantrums...and Thanksgiving

Let me begin by saying... sometimes, I really hate technology.

I had this awesome post that I was working on during my PR lecture.  I was so proud of it and was so excited to finish it after class and post it.  Somewhere in the saving process, my USB screwed up the Word file and didn't save my work, so I have to start over.

Oh, and it also screwed up the other 50 documents I had saved on my USB, which included three or four of my best academic papers EVER, and two novels-in-progress that I'd been working on for, oh, say, 3-5 years.  I tried everything I could do recover any of them...ran updates for my computer and Word/Office program, moving the files around, trying to save them as different file types...everything.  Fortunately I salvaged a couple of the documents by using the 'Finder' function on my computer, and I think my friend has a full copy of one of my big pieces, so I asked him to email it to me when he gets a chance.  And fortunately, I also have some hard printed copies of some of my work and notes, so that's kind of a help.  But still, that was really annoying and frustrating.  I hate not having full versions of my writing.

Ugh.  Technology.

Anyway...that was my little rant for the night...on to happier things...

Thanksgiving.  It's coming up soon.  And you know what Thanksgiving means?  Turkey.  Dressing (or stuffing, whatever you want to call it).  Sweet potatoes.  Cranberry sauce.  Green beans.  Squash casserole.  Corn.  Pumpkin pie.  Pecan pie.  Bread.  Lots of bread.

I bet your mouth is watering now, isn't it?  And whose wouldn't be?

Mine, actually.

Yes, you read correctly.  And no, I'm not a vegetarian or vegan.  I'm just ridiculously and admittedly obnoxiously finicky.  I've never been a big fan of turkey, and vegetables aren't really my thing either.  Thanksgiving is a tough holiday for me, because there aren't a lot of fruits that are traditionally associated with the holiday (I live on fruit, basically), and as I said above, I'm picky with my poultry. I'm not a fan of pumpkin pie, either.  My cousin used to be able to eat pumpkin pies by the whole, one after the other, and I never understood how he could stomach so much of the orange stuff.

So what do you eat, you may wonder?  Well... cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes, and bread.  Yeah, I know... I'm so healthy.

But food aside, I really do love Thanksgiving.  It's a great opportunity for my family to spend quality time with one another, cooking and baking, playing our favourite games, and watching our favourite movies.  My birthday also falls around Thanksgiving time, so we do a "double" celebration of sorts.  AND, even better, it's the official beginning of Christmas season, so shows like Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Frosty the Snowman, Frosty Returns, and A Charlie Brown Christmas begin their yearly rounds on the television stations.  Mom always says that Rudolph was playing on the TV in the hospital when she was pregnant with me, so watching Rudolph as a family is always extra special.

It's almost time for Thanksgiving break now, just about two more weeks.  As much as I love being at VT, I can't wait to go back to see my parents, cat, and close friends for a week.  But most of all, I just want to sleep in my own bed with my cat purring happily at my feet, and visit my church and old symphony, and consume wonderful home-cooked meals...

I might even break my bounds and try some turkey.
